Things To Remember When You Feel Blue About Blogging
When you do or think about something every day you're bound to go through highs and lows with it. The blogging blues are something that we've probably all encountered at some point and when they strike they can feel slightly crippling [in the least melodramatic way possible]. Luckily they don't last forever but here are some important things to remember when battling those blogging blues.
YOU DO YOU AND I'LL DO ME
So often in the blogging world we pay far too much attention to what other people are doing. It's so easy to get caught up in other peoples content. It's all too tempting to follow in the footsteps of others too when it seems to work so well but that doesn't mean it will work for you. The more that you blog you will start to find your feet with the entire process and figure out what is right for you. And when it goes against the grain of what is deemed popular then it can feel even scarier.
STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE CONTENT
I've lost count of how many negative posts I've seen about a particular style of blogging lately. I'm not quite sure what compels people to write such content. But when you consume too much it can get into your mind and easily make you feel down about your blog. Even though those posts probably aren't directly written about you, they can still feel hurtful. The best thing to do is just stay away from those type of posts. And don't purposely seek them out either they are never worth the doubt that they might incur. Same goes for negativity on social media. If you know someone's tweets make you feel rubbish then simply unfollow or mute them. Sometimes negativity can't be avoided but more than not it can. We're in control of what we see online, no one is forcing us to look at anything and we have to take control of that.
DON'T LET ANYBODY DISCOURAGE YOU
A motto that I've always carried through every aspect of my life. Is that unless something I'm directly doing is hurting or causing someone distress than I'm not going to stop something that makes me happy. Some people love to watch football on a Sunday and some people like to write about beauty products. Who cares if you want to have an Instagram theme or photograph on marble all day every day. Neither of those things affects anybody else, no matter how much they might like to act like it does.
GO BACK TO BASICS
The whole reason behind this post is because I recently went through a huge phase of the blogging blues. And what helped get me out of my slump was to remind myself of the basics of why I blog. So without taking into consideration all the other things that now come into play. I just thought about and wrote down the real basics. So what I like to write about the purpose of the content that I share and I quickly remembered why I do what I do online. Being more mindful of the blogging world is something that I really want to achieve in 2016 and that was a great way to start the process.
Do you have any tips for when you feel blue about blogging?
