The Ultimate Flawless Base
Having a good base is my number one priority when it comes to applying makeup. Even though my really bad skin days seem to be behind me I still like to have that little bit of added coverage. Recently I've gone back to a few old faithful products and they've been giving me one hell of a flawless base.
Prime
Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch*: This little red jar is the answer to all my primer needs, I've flitted between others, but this really is the one . It works to create a balanced complexion so gives a helping hand to areas that might be a little oily or dry. As the name suggest it smoothes over any uneven areas creating a velvety base for anything that you might apply over the top. It doesn't provide any coverage but gives that illusion as it makes everything appear much smoother.
Conceal
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer: Fortunately, I don't suffer too badly with dark circles but I do suffer from slight discolouration and dullness under the eye. The salmon tone of this concealer works perfectly at counteracting any unsightly tones. It adds light and luminosity to the area without being too bright resulting in that reverse panda effect and there are no chunks of glitter either.
17 Stay Time Concealer: I can usually skip this step if I'm using a high coverage base and don't have any particularly bad blemishes. This has been my go-to concealer for years now and I just don't think it can beaten on quality and price. It provides enough coverage without completely masking out the area or drying it out either which is never a desirable look.
Tools & Base & Finish
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation: The product that inspired this entire post. This was the first foundation I ever used and thought yes this is exactly what I want. It will always hold a special place in my heart as I wore it at my graduation. A full coverage base that is thick and creamy in consistency but never feels heavy on the skin. It covers everything up whilst still looking natural and skin like. When I really need my base to last in the warmer weather this is what I always reach for as it lets the skin breathe whilst still managing to last all day.
Zoeva Silk Finish Brush: This is, dare I say, the perfect foundation brush? It's dense enough to buff your base in but has enough flexibility to get in every nook and cranny. It blends everything in seamlessly and doesn't suck any of the foundation up so no product gets wasted.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade: In combination with the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation the two provide the most beautiful soft focus finish base that has serious longevity. It's a baked & marbleised product so each one is different, some might be too sheeny to use a setting powder, but mine works perfectly. It softens up my makeup completely and adds luminosity without piling on the highlighter and gives me the skin that I would love to have without an ounce of makeup. It's a great dupe for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders which are nearly double the price.
