My Favourite Lipstick Formulas

Lipstick and I have a complex relationship, sometimes I wear nothing but lipstick and then sometimes I opt for a tinted balm or a liner. Along with foundation it's my favourite make up item to buy, there is just something so fun about finding a new shade and formulation to try. Over the years I have tried and tested so many that I just have to have my favourites and here are some of my most loved formulations:

Revlon Matte Balms: By far the best lip crayon that I've ever used. I fell head over heels for these last year and I think they are such a fantastic high street lip option. Although they are called a 'matte' balm I would say that they definitely have much more a satin finish which makes them super comfortable to wear all day. They definitely have the lasting power of a matte lip option and they require very little touch ups which makes them ideal if you've got a busy day ahead.

Rimmel Apocolips Lip Lacquers: When these were released the blogging world went crazy about them. They're liquid lipstick that definitely lean more toward the glossy side so for that reason I like to blot these down quite a lot otherwise they have the tendency to slip around a little too much. They are really easy to apply as they have a doe foot applicator but beware of going overboard on application.

No7 Stay Perfect: I don't think No7 are a brand that get enough attention in the beauty world, we all just seem to dismiss it because it's such a familiar site in our local Boots but they have some fantastic products. The Stay Perfect lipsticks really do live up to their name sakes as this is one of the best lipsticks I own in terms of longevity. They don't dry the lips out either which is something I really don't like in my lip products as I find them really uncomfortable and play havoc with my lips.

Rodial Glamstick*: A brand that is still relatively new to me is Rodial but last year I was lucky enough to try a few bits from them and one of my favourites is the Glamstick. I know this post is about lipsticks but this is super pigmented so it looks like you could be wearing a lipstick whilst getting all the benefits of a balm. I adore the coconut scent of these, they're lovely and hydrating whilst still packaging a punch with pigmentation.

Bourjois Rouge Edition: By far my most worn lipstick from last year. I have the shade 4 and it's the perfect everyday pink shade for me, it has a little bit of a brown undertone which is super flattering against my skin tone. The formulation of these lipsticks is perfect for minimal everyday make up as they are hydrating on the lips and wear evenly throughout the day and are surprisingly long lasting.

Revlon Lip Butter: Another great everyday option are the lip butters from Revlon. I have a couple of shades but my favourite is Berry Smoothie which is ideal for the A/W months as it hydrates as well as giving a pretty wash of colour to the lips. I like that these aren't overly glossy as sometimes that can make things a little to smeary for my liking.

Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colour: The fantastic things about these lipsticks is that you can either wear them sheer or really pack on the colour. I have the shade Rosy which is such a pretty bright pink shade, this would be a great introduction to pinks if you're a little scared of going bright straight away. Whatever way you wear this lipstick it wears so well and although it's expensive I think the formulation is spot on for the price.

Fresh Sugar Berry Lip Treatment: Again this technically is a tinted balm it's so pigmented that it could easily be a lipstick. These are absolutely beautiful products, they are super hydrating on the lips and can be built up to a really opaque shade or worn sheerly. They hold the crown to my favourite packaging when it comes to a lip product because the top screws on so you don't have to worry about it falling off in your bag.

MAC Lustre Lipsticks: I'm not as seasoned as most when it comes down to MAC lipsticks but my favourite formulation I've tried is the lustre finish. They have an almost sheeny finish to the lips as they aren't quite satin and they aren't quite a gloss so it's a great in between. Sometimes I've found MAC lipsticks can drag on the lips but these glide on with ease and can be built up easily.
