The Never Ending Quest For The Perfect Mascara

Mascara is one of those beauty products that you can always know if you get along with it or not within seconds of application. I also think it's one of those products that brands either get really right or really wrong. And as a serious beauty lover myself I always feel like I'm on the quest to find the perfect mascara. A few have come incredibly close but there is always room for improvement. I've rounded up some of my favourites to share with you today and some hyped products that didn't quite live up their reputation.

YSL BABYDOLL: YSL are well known for their beautiful mascaras. Although the price of them pains me as they're incredibly expensive. If you've got the money to spend they're well worth it. The Babydoll mascara gives the lashes so much lift, flutter as well as achieving a lot of volume. It's the one of only eye options that I've ever used where I've not had to use another mascara in combination with it which is rare. The only issue that I have with it is that it's so highly scented. Which isn't something that I personally struggle with but I know it's something that could be a horrible irritant to sensitive peepers.

BENEFIT THEY'RE REAL: According to Benefits marketing, this is the most popular mascara in the UK which is quite a bold claim. A few years ago when this was first released it was incredibly hyped up, not only in the blogging world but in real life too. And whilst I do enjoy what this does to my lashes as it gives them incredible length, volume and lift. It's a complete nightmare to remove, no matter what you use to try and get it off it just seems to stay put. Which isn't a trait that is all that wonderful in an eye product. Granted it does stay put but I don't think it's all too great for general lash health. I know that they now sell a dedicated eye makeup remover for it but that is something that puts me off buying it even more. I don't think if you buy a high-end mascara you should have to buy another expensive product to remove it.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA*: This mascara is incredibly hyped up in the blogging world. And when I first used it I was so disappointed. I just didn't understand why it was so well loved and it smudged quite badly. However once it dried out a little I completely understood the hype.  I love how big this makes my lashes look, it almost looks like it multiplies them as they're so voluminous and fanned out. You can use this for a more minimal makeup look if you use it sparingly. But if you apply multiple coats you can achieve some serious drama.

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL MASCARA: Without a doubt, this is the best budget mascara I've ever used. It's currently my favourite mascara of all time along with the YSL Babydoll but this, of course, is a lot more cost friendly. It delivers an almost perfect lash look. A lot of lift, separation, curl and volume and it stays put all day without the need for a stubborn waterproof formula. The brush is slightly smaller than your typical mascara option which makes it really easy to work with and get right down the root of the lash.

CLAUDIA LOUCH INTENSE LASH MASCARA*: This mascara is incredibly expensive and I'm not sure I feel comfortable recommending it as it's so pricey. However, it does do wonderful things for the lashes. The brush sets this mascara apart from the rest as it grips so tightly onto the lashes giving you a huge amount of volume and lift. As well as an awesome brush the formula is great too, no smudging or flaking in sight.
