The Makeup That Held Up In A Heatwave
If the recent heatwave has taught me anything it's that British people love talking about the weather. It's probably something that has been ingrained into us from birth. As it has been so warm I was worried about applying makeup and just watching it slide off my face within minutes. After some trial and error, I found the perfect combination of products and a makeup look that lasted throughout the heatwave.
BASE
If my base looks rubbish then the rest of my makeup doesn't stand a chance. I needed something that was going to last in the heat but wasn't going to make me look like a porcelain doll. After featuring The Body Shop Tea Tree Primer*, in a post last week I swiftly added it back into my rotation. I forgot just how good it is in the heat, I'm normally not one for a matte complexion, but this is perfect. It's not at all drying, just smoothing and keeps any excess oil at bay. My concealer hasn't changed, so nothing new to report in this area. Rimmel Wake Me Up forever.
Now for my foundation of choice, the Claudia Louch High Definition Foundation has been sat in my collection for a long time. As I'm looking slightly more bronzed than usual this now matches my complexion perfectly. I was skeptical about this, but it's one of the best foundations I've tried in months. There is a reason why this is called an HD foundation, it makes your skin look flawless. Blending it in takes a little more than my usual bases but it's totally worth the effort. It's been put to the test with it's lasting power, it was still clinging on after a long day in Manchester. Powder's a complete necessity in the heat, the MAC MSF Natural is one of the best as no matter how much you apply you never look overdone and caked in makeup.
CHEEKS & LIPS
Peach isn't a shade that I typically lean towards. Like I said I'm more bronzed than usual and I think that is when peachy shades really flatter my skin tone. Benefit Coralista is my go to, such a cult shade, but there is a good reason for that. This swept along the cheekbones gives life to the skin whilst looking completely natural. It's a real shame that I don't get more use out of this. For lips, I've been keeping it super simple. The Clarins Lip Balm Perfector in Rose* is ideal for those days when you can't really be bothered to touch up lipstick. It's hydrating and just that perfect amount of glossy without being too slippy and ending up on your cheek within 10 minutes of application. These aren't my favourite lip offerings from Clarins, but they're still nice and they have that classic dreamy vanilla scent.
EYES
What I've been wearing on my lids will not come as a shock to anybody. Of course, it's been MAC's Naked Lunch and the Too Faced Champagne Shadow Insurance. The two together are just shimmery eye perfection and not a duo I will be going without anytime soon. Mascara smudges are the bain of my life in the warm weather. There is a combination that have kept my eye area free from anything that remotely resembles a panda. I've come to love the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, it does deliver a lot of volume and lift, in combination with the Yves Rocher Volume Vertige* it's almost my ideal eye look. The two together don't smudge or flake at all so you're still left with the mascara look that you applied 12 hours later. Even though they're both long lasting they're not difficult to remove so what more can a girl ask for?
