The Importance Of Running Your Own Race In Life
If 2015 has taught me anything, it's that we're all running our own race in life. Even though this isn't something that is new to me it's something I'm terrible at forgetting. The comparison trap is an easy one to fall into and once you're at the bottom it can be hard to climb to the top again. So whether it's in your everyday life or in the blogging world here is why it's important to go by your own rules and run your own race.
NO TWO PEOPLE ARE THE SAME
Even though it might feel like it sometimes, none of us are the same. Our stories may cross paths, but they will never be the same. Which is why it's so important to remember that what we want in life might not match what our closest friends want and it's scary to go against the grain but it's also kind of awesome. Just because you might not personally agree with someone's choice it's always important to respect it. Just like you would always want them to respect your choice. Going down your own path is super scary but if what is at the end of it is going to make you happy it's important to embark on the journey.
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE JUDGED, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO
No matter what you do, other people are always going to judge you. Whether it's right or wrong it's just part of life and it's something we all have to deal with. It took me a really long time to realise that until you've walked in someone else's shoes and lived every second of their life then you have absolutely no right to judge their choices. There are plenty of things that I don't agree with in the world, real and blogging, but I don't pass judgement because it's not my place.
THE SOCIAL MEDIA TRAp
3 years ago I deactivated my Facebook account and it's the best decision I've ever made for my personal happiness. Once I took that step back it gave me a chance to look at my life and decide where I really wanted to go and be. Constantly looking at other people's life from an outsiders point of view can be a dangerous habit to get into. I'm sure we're all aware that no-one is ever completely honest on social media and there is nothing wrong with that but it can be easy to forget and start comparing yourself.
YOU'RE NUMBER 1
Although it might not feel like it sometimes, the most important person in any of our lives is ourselves. We spend every waking moment with ourselves and when you're unhappy it can be a horrible place to be. Being selfish is always seen as such a negative thing but it's important, if you don't make yourself happy then no-one else will.
SUCCESS LOOKS DIFFERENT TO EVERYBODY
What I consider to be a success will never be the same as what my friends think and that is a good thing. I think this is an issue that we all struggle with, especially in the blogging world. For some people, they might think that their blog is a success because they got the courage to start one in the first place. But, then to others it might be having a million page views a month. There is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to success and that's super important to remember when you feel yourself falling into the comparison trap.
