The Classic Statement Beauty Products
On a daily basis, I like to keep my makeup simple and understated. But every so often I like to reach for a classic statement item. Those items that instantly make you look like you've put a whole lot more effort into your makeup than you actually have. As we all know I'm a fuss free type of girl so anything too tricky upon application isn't my kind of thing so here are my lazy girl friendly statement beauty essentials.
EYES
Eyeshadow pencils have become my new favourite thing to use when I'm in the mood to add a little more pizazz to my usual champagne eye palette. Of course, the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Pencil* in Champagne Diamonds was going to make an appearance. This can be used to make a statement in the inner corner as a highlight or scribbled all over the lid. Even though I'm not a liner lover I still like to create a little more intensity by using a pencil smudged into the lash line. This eyeshadow pencil from new brand on the block Bagsy* makes light work of that. You can use this all over the lid if you want something a little more intense and smoky as it's got a beautiful creamy consistency making it easy to blend.
LIPS & CHEEKS
This post just had to contain a classic red. I'm quite particular about my reds and the undertones that they have. Anything that is too orange or yellow just isn't for me. But anything too blue is a little too cool for me also. The Clinique Pop Lip in Cherry Pop* is perfection on my snow white skin. Statement lips normally need a lot of prep work. The formulation of these lipsticks contains a built-in primer to smooth out any uneven textures as well as helping increase longevity. A red lip isn't always day time friendly but a plum is a great compromise between making a statement and being a little less bold. The shade Plum Pop* from Pop Lip* line is a beautiful shade. It's not too dark or vampy. It has a strong pink undertone to it but it still manages to make more of a statement than a typical nude. In the same colour palette, the Topshop Blush in Dream Phone is perfect. Sadly it's not made anymore but there are similar shades available from the likes of Sleek and Maxfactor. You need to be careful upon application with these type of shades. It's so easy to go overboard with them and make your skin look a little too flushed. Aunt Sally cheeks are never a makeup look that I want to create.
NAILS
Dusky pink and mauve nails are my go to for standard day to day wear. Just like my lips, when I want to make a little more of a statement I will go for a red or a berry. Classic red nails were my go to a couple of years ago but I think I overdid them. This polish from Diego Dalla Palmas* recently came into my collection and it's that perfect classic red, I firmly believe that everyone needs one of those shades in their collection. Worn in either summer or winter, it's a great shade and goes with pretty much any outfit. A shade that is typically more suited to the A/W months is a deep berry. Those beautiful wine shades are always beautiful on the nails and the Essie polish in Bahama Mama fits the bill perfectly.
