Reflecting On 2015 & Setting Goals For 2016
Whenever this time of year rolls around and we're coming closer to beginning a fresh 12 months I always find myself reflecting. When we approach a new year we start thinking about goals and what we want to achieve so today I wanted to revisit and go back to my goals that I set last year and think about what I want to achieve in 2016.
2015
I didn't begin this year in the best place, physically or mentally. There are a lot of things that I don't talk about on my blog or anywhere online as I don't always feel that the internet is the appropriate place for them. Although I love writing personal content covering tough topics, there are still some things that still feel icky to discuss online. During April things started to pick up and I realised that 2015 was the year that I needed to work on myself to get into a better mindset so I could make big things happen and do them to the best of my ability. Even though the year didn't start off well it's really picked up and right now I feel good.
Isn't it funny that I feel more uncomfortable saying I feel happy than I do saying that things aren't going so well. I feel that I'm in a good place with work, my relationships and ultimately I feel like I've got a really good balance with everything. There are still a lot of things in my life that are tough, but that's just life isn't it? We're all dealing with our own things but one of the biggest lessons that I can take from this year is to not let those things define your life and how you feel. It can be super easy to forget just how lucky we are in life sometimes and there is always something positive you can take from every day no matter what has happened.
So now onto the goals, here are the things that I listed in my goals post last year:
- Pass my driving test
- Go on a trip
- Be kinder to myself
- Try something new
- Cook more
- Let people in
- Keep on reading
- Stay in shape
- Take time off
- A new career venture
DID I REACH THEM?
My goals changed a crazy amount over the year so some things evolved into different things. So here they are broken down and how they've changed:
Pass my driving test: I'm currently in the process of doing this. I so wish I'd just got this out of the way when I was younger as right now it just seems like a necessity instead of something that is fun.
Go on a trip: No and I don't think it's something I will be doing next year either due to personal circumstances.
Be kinder to myself: I've tried to ease the amount of pressure I was putting on myself this year. I've still worked super hard, but I don't feel so drained and burned out as I used to.
Try something new: I suppose the biggest new thing that I did this year was moving my blog to Squarespace, I get so stuck in my ways that this was a huge transition for me.
Cook more: I've really made the effort with my diet and tried to get in the kitchen more and even though I still struggle to enjoy it I know that it's having a positive effect on my health.
Let people in: This has been my biggest downfall this year, the walls that I put around myself are probably even higher now. It's definitely something I want to work on in 2016 as I don't want to be so cold to my loved ones.
Keep on reading: You guys will probably already know the answer to this and yes I definitely reached this goal. I read nearly every day now and it's been feeding my brain and soul so much.
Stay in shape: My mindset towards exercise has completely changed this year. I recently had a body composition break down and it was a real eye opener to my inner well-being and what I need to work on for my insides.
Take time off: In the later half of 2015 I took some time off and it really showed me how important time off is. I felt so refreshed and it made me feel super excited about work once again.
A new career venture: Although I've not achieved the big goal that I wanted to I've made stepping stones towards it which for me is still progress.
So looking back on last year and what I achieved and how things changed it's made me feel so much more prepared to make some great goals for 2016 and here they are.
- Continue to maintain my income [a goal that I achieved in 2015 but I don't like to discuss money online].
- Keep reading books.
- Possibly decrease the days that I post on From Roses to make room for other work.
- Work on new skills and maybe make short videos to-go alongside my blog content.
- Pass my driving test.
- Separate my work life and my real life more.
- Try and eat more of a nutritious diet.
I'd love to know your goals for next year!
