An Interview with What Would Jade Do

For the past month I've had the pleasure of the lovely Jade from What Would Jade Do taking the top spot in my sidebar and I took the chance of getting to know her and her blog a little more and here is what she had to say:

So Jade tell us a little bit more about yourself>

I moved to the UK from St.Lucia (where I was born and grew up) 15 years ago, I came to do my A-levels (I don't think they even do these anymore!! Eek!). I went to this pretty random, vegetarian boarding school where I met my boyfriend - I was only meant to be in the UK for 2 years but we went to uni together and have been together ever since! I've lived in Brighton for over 7 years now and I totally love it here. I work from home, full time for a wonderful charity which I adore and blog at What Would Jade Do for fun.

How did you get into blogging?

I love blogs, I have always loved fashion and beauty magazines but when I first discovered beauty and lifestyle blogs I was instantly hooked. My other half has just finished his PhD in International Relations so needless to say is not massively interested in my latest mascara purchase - my best friend in the whole world (who incidentally named my blog) has zero interest in makeup and beauty so I thought What Would Jade Do would be a great outlet for my almost unhealthy obsession with all things makeup and beauty related. It was also an excellent excuse to get an amazing camera and laptop! Totally unnecessary but any excuse...

Tell us more about What Would Jade Do?

What Would Jade Do is a hobby blog about makeup, beauty and food which are three of my big loves. I have really enjoyed the learning process over the past few months - getting to grips with a new camera and laptop has been loads of fun but at times frustrating - I have major respect for the bloggers out there who consistently produce beautiful content and images to such a high standard.

Apart from running WWJD what do you get up to?

Aside from working full time I love to cook, go out for dinner, meet with friends, cook for friends, go on Sussex countryside adventures, seafront walks, drink wine and prosecco while meeting friends, cooking and going out for dinner! I'm not going to lie I also love autumn TV! Sometimes there is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket, glass of wine or hot chocolate and watching Strictly/The Apprentice/Masterchef Professionals/Downton Abbey (not all in one go) when it's wet and cold outside. Trashy but good for the soul!

What keeps you inspired?

Other blogs, magazines, the wonderfully eclectic population of Brighton - I once followed a lady around the Lanes until I plucked up the courage to ask her what her lipstick was and where she got her scarf (Chanel and Zara btw). Also the aisles of Taj, Waitrose and Boots! Sad but true.

Some of your favourite things about blogging?

Although I'm very new to blogging I love the community and I really love having total control over the content of my website - I know it's a cliche but having a part of the internet that is just yours to do whatever you want with is loads of fun...if I want to go on and on about a face cream I just adore I'm totally allowed to!

What is it like to work for charity?

I have always worked for charity and started in an admin role right after university, from there I just worked my way up. I now work from home for a charity that I just love, because of then nature of the job it can sometimes be heartbreaking and really tough but it's always worth it when you can see a difference the organisation makes to peoples lives...it sounds a bit soppy but honestly I wouldn't change it for the world.

Your current favourite items?

At the moment I am loving Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum (god what a mouthful!) but this stuff has seriously been my autumn saviour. Bourjois Lipstick Rouge Velvet Grand Cru is a thing of beauty and I recently got two Zara scarfs the size of blankets which I have been wearing everyday for the past month. I've just finished reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie which I cannot recommend enough!

What are some of your favourite blogs at the moment?

Super easy to answer this one: Vivianna Does Makeup, Nouvelle Daily, Ghost Parties, The Londoner, That Grace Girl, A Thrifty Mrs, Black Girl with Long Hair, Smitten Kitchen, i am a food blog and From Roses! (I'm not just saying that!! I love your blog!). As well as the 100's of other that I follow and love!

What is to come on your blog in the future?

I'm really hoping to add video content because I personally find it massively entertaining - I'm only going to do it if I enjoy it, can produce videos that I would want to watch, of a decent quality and if I have the time to fit it in...we'll see.
