Not quite love at first sight

Not all my beauty stash was quite love at first sight or use. There are a few products that it took me a few go's to get used to and some shades that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I'm sure I'm not the only who has either bought something or read about something and been convinced it was going to be love. Once used though I've felt a little let down but after a few uses we've come come to love each other now.

Something that I desire more than I probably should is for shops to use daylight bulbs especially if they sell beauty items because it can make it pretty difficult to work out what is an accurate colour in store. This happened to me twice in Topshop, I love their cream blushes but the colours they stock are crazy bright and when I saw them in store they seemed a lot more muted and even though I love them now I've realised you have to go easy on application otherwise you look slightly Aunt Sally esque.

In 2012 there were two very hyped products in the beauty blogging world, they are both items from two of my all time favourite brands too. The Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is such a famous item in the haircare world and I had read so many reviews that I was convinced it would be nothing but love. Upon first spritz I was left majorly disappointed, then I read a post saying not to use it through wet hair and voila all my problems were solved. The Origins Drink up Intensive Overnight Mask seems to be either a product that you love and works fantastically for you or it either breaks your skin out like crazy. I remember the first few times I used this and I did wake up with baby soft skin yes but my skin seemed a little spotty. I was worried that it just wasn't right for me but after persisting I've learnt to not apply too much of this as it is a little heavy on spot prone skin.

Whenever I find myself in American Apparel I'm always drawn to the nail polishes, they have some really beautiful colours. Although they aren't the cheapest at around £7 they do have a lovely formulation even though the brush isn't quite the best they are opaque in one coat. I have the shade 'The Valley' which is a pretty green shade, upon first application it stayed on my nails for about 4 hours and then it was removed with haste. A few more applications later I've finally learnt to love it on my nails, I think it is because I'm such a pastel girl at heart. It takes a lot for something to compare to Seche Vite in my books and when I first applied the OPI Rapid Dry it left my nails a bubbly mess and it was tossed aside. After a few more applications with this I've learnt that it works well with everything but Rimmel polishes apparently and although it doesn't leave my nails as shiny as Seche Vite it does dry incredibly quick and no shrinking either.

I have a complex love affair with lipsticks anyway, I love to buy them but a lot of the time I'm just too lazy to apply them. One of my favourite lipsticks to wear this summer has been the Yves Rocher Grand Rouge Lipstick* however when I dropped through my letterbox I was a little apprehensive to wear it, bright fuchsia pink definitely isn't in my comfort zone. A few trial runs later with wearing it around the house (I can't be the only one who does this?) I absolutely love slicking it on it is such a lovely shade. Another example of this is the Clarins Lip Balm Crayon* I saw the colour of the tube and was like hm not for me, I was wrong once applied this is akin to my natural lip shade and smoothes out the texture of my lips which is ideal for a lazy day. This L'Occitane lipstick is one of my favourites just for the beautiful packaging alone but when I bought it I actually picked up the wrong shade. When I realised I was sad to see that I actually had brown toned pink, nowadays this is the kind of shade that I go for anyway so it was a happy little mistake and discovery.
