There's more to blogging than beauty

It seems very easy to get caught up in the world of beauty blogging when your Twitter feed is flooded with all the latest releases and Instagram is a minefield of pretty products. I know when I began From Roses I just saw it as another creative outlet and it always has been for me I love how I get to talk about the things that inspire me and love as well as work with other creatives. Over the past 3 years I have not only gained an amazing level of readers but I have also made a lot of friends along the way.

Far too many girls get caught up in the PR side of things and only deem a blog a success if it is being provided with a bunch of products for free. This is the side of blogging I truly dislike not only does it cause strife between people which is completely un-necessary but is an appalling way to go about having an opinion on something that someone takes the time to write and create content for. I wish the the beauty chats that commence on Twitter on a sunday evening just banned the topic of PR and focused of the true wonder of the blogging community and that is the people involved in it. There is no way that I will ever be able to truly express how grateful I am to the people who support and continue to read what I have to say on this blog but I feel so blessed to have such lovely readers. Whenever people leave comments, follow me on Instagram & Twitter I always try my best to look if they have a blog and I know I am not the only one who does this.

There's a few girls that I feel so lucky to know and if you follow any of us on Twitter you will probably know who I am about to say Jenny, Sophie, Luce, Tenneil and Brittany. Not only are these girls all so incredibly talented and if you aren't reading their blogs then I highly suggest you do, they have hearts of absolute gold and are so supportive that it makes my heart melt. They make me want to become a better writer, photographer and to simply work hard and that is what good people inspire you to do. All too often I hear about girls who are so scared to start a blog down to the amount of negativity involved in the community. It is sad that some people feel the need to be so horrid to each other but if they are then they aren't people you want to involved with anyway. I would be a complete liar if I said that there weren't people I disliked out there but that is human nature you aren't going to like everybody and that is fine but I keep try to keep that to myself. A lot of people use the internet as an escape from the issues of everyday life and I certainly did that last year. I got severely ill in a matter of weeks so my blog became a way to keep things positive and not focused on an illness I have for the rest of my life. I have been more honest an open about my life and got such a positive response from it that I felt so silly to be ashamed of having an illness that made me bed bound for months.

If I hadn't been open and honest about this issue in my life then I would have never become such good friends with Jenny, not only is this lady an amazing friend she is also someone who I am working on a completely new project with. Having somebody who I can text any problem too, send numerous pictures of Bella and obsess over stationary with and of course discuss our love for John Mayer and Jamie Lenman as well as our teen favourites like Cartel and Taking Back Sunday makes me so happy. So there is definitely much more to beauty blogging than the isles of Boots and the latest Space NK release there is a huge community too that I feel so lucky to be apart of it.
