Capsule Wardrobe & Style Investment Plans for 2020

Whilst I highly doubt I’ll ever consider myself particularly fashionable one thing I've come to really love is writing about is clothes. Whether it’s pieces of clothing that I want to buy, have had in my wardrobe for years, think are highly practical or just generally love it's something that brings me a huge amount of joy. The past few years I’ve started to keep a list of the things that I want to buy as I find it puts a stop the vast majority of impulse purchases I might be tempted to make and this is what I’ve got on my 2020 to buy list so far.

patagonia jacket

Patagonia is a brand that I really love due to their sustainable approach to outerwear and practical clothing but due to their high price point, it’s not somewhere that I can afford to shop from all that often. One of their items that has always come highly recommend are the recycled down or micro puff coats. Over the years I’ve become a total convert to a puffer coat as to me they’re the closest thing I can get to wearing a duvet outside and they keep you seriously warm too. I never thought that I would consider this style of coat chic but personally, I love the way they look paired with a nice knit underneath.

patagonia 1/4 zip better sweater

For some reason, the 1/4 zip better sweater from Patagonia doesn’t appear to be readily available in the UK which is a little odd but I’m hoping I’ll be able to get my hands on one these 1/4 zips. You know you’ve reached a certain point in your life when you’re saving your money for a fleece. Mid-layers like this are things that I’m really missing in my wardrobe as of right now and I know they're an item of clothing that I would get a lot of use out of. Something like this in late spring paired and early autumn with a Breton, leggings, and Converse is an outfit I know I can just throw on and still feel somewhat well put together. In the real colder months I can wear this under a thicker coat too and I’ll be so nice and snug.

lululemon align pants

I already own a pair of these extremely expensive leggings and to be honest I never, ever thought I would be one of those people who would consider spending close to £100 on leggings (my boyfriend bought me my first pair as a birthday present) but they’re just so good. They’ve been through the wash hundreds of times at this point and they’ve not bobbled or gone thin in any areas and they’re almost as buttery soft as they were when I first got them. Often with leggings when they sculpt your body they can be quite uncomfortable to wear for long periods but these are sculpting but oh so comfortable on even the most bloated stomach.

a.p.c half moon bag

Bags are the one thing I’ve always had a little bit of a soft spot for but I’ve never delved into the world of designer bags due to the lack of funds for them. However, one bag that has been on my list for years is the A.P.C half-moon bag and I still love it as much as I did the first day I saw it. Ideally, if I can I'd like to try and buy this bag second hand as I don't really want to buy leather new at this point in my life. The shape is timeless and will never go out of fashion and for me, if I’m ever going to spend hundreds of pounds on a designer bag I want it to be something that won’t be considered unfashionable in just a matter of months.

Superga trainers

My beloved white Converse are something that I’ve needed to replace for a couple of years now but I have the habit of wearing shoes until they fall off my feet. So I’ve not purchased anything to go in there place just yet but now the back has completely worn away I need to as they’re really uncomfortable to wear. As much as I love my Converse I’d really like to try out the Superga style and they come highly recommended by so many people and I love that they do half sizes.

areas of my capsule wardrobe that need to be worked on

  • Bottoms: a girl can’t live in leggings forever.

  • Skirts: I currently don’t own any skirts at all.

  • T-shirts: an area I really need to expand as I currently only own Breton’s.

  • Shoes: I have the habit of wearing my shoes till they’re a real sorry state.
