5 Things That Make Anywhere Feel Like Home
Whether you've just moved, renting an apartment, at university or at your family home making a space feel like yours is important. There are a few staple items that can completely transform the way that a space feels and they don't have to be budget busting here. Here are 5 of my personal favourites.
CANDLES & HOME SCENTS
The older I get the more I realise how important home scents are. Candles, reed diffusers and room sprays are alway great ways to create a dreamy aroma in your home and instantly make it feel more snug. You don't need to spend a tonne of money either, places like IKEA, Primark and Dunelm Mill are great places to shop for them. These items also make the perfect moving in gift for somebody and the perfect opportunity to get something a little more luxe.
PLANTS
Plants are extremely visually pleasing but they're also great for your environment. They improve the air quality ten fold so if that's not a reason to fill your room with leafy green goodness then I don't know what is. Starting small is important because you don't want to buy a big houseplant only to see it wither and die within a few days. So if you know you're not blessed with a green thumb why not try with cacti? They're pretty much foolproof as long as you don't overwater and drown them.
BOOKS
So many books have such beautiful covers it seems such a shame to tuck away into a bookshelf. Why not make them into a little more a feature and display them? Even just stacked on your desk or bedside table they can make a beautiful feature. I've even seen people use their collection to even make a bedside table for themselves which is also a great money saver. Books are so inspiring to be surrounded by so why not make the most of yours.
PRINTS & PHOTOGRAPHS
If you're fortunate enough to be allowed to put things on the walls, creating a gallery wall is a fail safe way to make a space feel like home. If you're not then you can still put prints and photographs in frames and scatter them around. Personally, I love nothing more than surrounding myself by artwork or typography that I adore. Again this doesn't need to be something that is super expensive. Postcards from Paperchase and prints from Etsy can cost only a few pounds but they can completely transform your space.
BEDDING & SOFT FURNISHINGS
Maybe it's because I have somewhat of an obsession with making my bed the cosiest and most heavenly space in the world. But, I can't get enough of bedding or soft furnishings like throws and cushions. Especially in a bedroom, the bed is the main feature and how you dress it can completely change the way your space looks. I love white walls so I like to make a statement with my soft furnishings, you can go incredibly bold or more muted. Blush pink is my new love and it's the perfect way to brighten up your space during a dull winter.
