5 Soul Soothing Activities

There are so many wonderful things that we can do in life that feels soothing to our souls. I always love hearing what other people do when they've either had a bit of rough time or just feel generally run down and need a little bit of extra self-love and care. Here are 5 my all time favourite things to that just make me instantly better no matter what is happening.

RE-READING YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK

Most summers without fail I will read the Harry Potter books again and this year I went back to my old favourite tradition and it gave me such a wonderful feeling. I've read the story and watched the films so many times that I've lost count but it never loses its magic [pun completely intended]. Reading, in general, is something that a lot of people find incredibly calming and it's not hard to understand why. When you're fully immersed in your favourite book it takes your mind off into another place which when you struggle with overthinking and worrying is so important to try and calm your mind.

WALKING

Now it's 'summer' in the UK it's always nice to be able to get outside in the fresh air and go for a walk. As I have a little four legged friend who loves nothing more than getting out it always gives me a bit more of an incentive to get outside. On the days that it's really warm I've found it's a little too hot for me and my dog to be out in the midday sun so going for a walk in the evening with a good podcast to keep me company has been absolutely glorious. And of course, with the release of Pokemon Go that's just another reason to go for a walk and hatch some eggs in hope for something good.

TIDYING & ORGANISING

Some people find tidying and organising dull and a painstaking task but it's something that I adore. I'm not someone who can have clutter in her environment so I always try and keep on top of everything and make sure nothing is getting too out of control. In the UK we have this phrase of 'bumbling around' and that's a great way, to sum up, what I love to do when I've either had a bad day or generally feel pretty stressed. I like to bumble around and make sure everything is tidy and organised as if it isn't then just adds to the feeling.

CONNECTING WITH LOVE ONES

Whilst I'd love to be able to say that I'm always a good friend/girlfriend/sister/daughter. That definitely isn't always the case and when I get busy or stressed I tend to go into my shell even more and shut everyone out and I know this isn't always the best way to handle things. Connecting with your loved ones is so important and something that I think is very much underrated and it's almost seen as a luxury in our current society which it shouldn't be. Making time to send that text or make that phone call is incredibly important and something I'm definitely trying to get better at doing. As I know that when I've got a happy relationship with my loved ones I always feel like I'm much more capable of achieving what I want then trying to do everything without anyone else to talk through things with.

MAKING PLANS

Years ago I was a little obsessive with making plans and having the big 5-year plan and since then I've done a complete 180 and very much just try to live day to day. However, I do love to make plans with my loved ones or even just with myself as I think in general we all need something to look forward to. Having something to work towards and think about when you're having a crappy day can make all the difference in the world.
