As my makeup routine has pretty much remained the same apart from switching around my base I've not warranted writing one of these posts in a long time. As I've added a few new items into rotation and they happen to be pretty awesome I just had to share the details on what I've been applying as of late.
PREP
Oh, how I love a good primer or five. My latest squeeze has been the Too Faced Hangover Primer, this has had a lot of press on blogs so I was eager for it to arrive with my boyfriend in tow. The way this makes my skin look is unlike something I've ever used before. As it doesn't contain any silicone it doesn't feel slippy which isn't something I like in my primers. The consistency is creamy and lightweight and doesn't interfere with any moisturiser you've applied prior. It makes for a dewy base and in combination with a satin foundation it's been all I've been going for lately. In terms of makeup longevity, I can't say I've noticed a huge difference but it might need further road testing, but so far I think it's worthy of the praise it's received.
BASE
The combination of the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer, Clinique Even Better Foundation and the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish has been summer base heaven. We all know the drill, we want something that will withstand the heat without being too heavy. The concealer is perfect for those of us who want to brighten under the eye without rocking the reverse panda look. My love for the Clinique Even Better Foundation has been made clear in any post I've written in the past month. Our love affair is still going strong and it's the only base that I've reached for and I can be quite the floozy when it comes to that area of my routine. To set that all into place and deter any excess oil I've still been reaching for the MAC MSF, nothing new to see here!
EYES
My shadows selection and primer of choice have remained the same for months now. On the days, I don't reach for my MAC shadows I always use this palette from Collection. For a mere £4 I'm not sure you could ask for anything more from this awesome palette. The shadows are buttery soft, pigmented and long lasting. My mascara duo has taken an unexpected twist, for a while I was a little unsure on how I felt about the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. It's so highly praised that I think my hopes were a little too high. Now it's dried out slightly I find it gives my lashes the look I was expecting it to. However, in combination with the Claudia Louch Intense Lash Mascara* they're really bringing it in the volume department. From root to tip they're giving me that doe-eyed look that I'm a huge fan of.
CHEEKS & LIPS
There is no denying that the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes are beautiful. A pure example of sheer makeup beauty. The shade Mood Exposure is a mixture of a dusky rose and mauve so everything I love in a blush. They are incredibly pigmented and it's easy to go slightly overboard so a light-handed application is required. The lasting powder isn't incredible but having been spoilt with the Tarte 12 hour blushes it had an awful lot to live up to. I'm in two minds whether I think these blushes are worth it or not. You can get something incredibly similar from Maxfactor for 1/3 of the price. Lips have been kept simple and I've flitted between the Clarins Lip Balm Crayon in Soft Coffee* and the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm in Petal. Both are perfect for an understated yet defined lip look.
