An Ode To Powder

Ever since the beauty world became obsessed with rocking a radiant dewy base powder has been kicked to curb. As much as I love a glowing complexion I will always have a soft spot for powder. It's always had a firm place in my beauty routine and was one of the first products that I ever used a teen. Today I'm going to round up some of my favourite powder offerings, ranging from the traditional to the new era of the product, the luminizers.

MAC MINERALIZE SKIN FINISH NATURAL: I still remember when I bought this powder and being pretty disappointed by it, I've gone from not being overly impressed to it becoming probably my favourite powder of all time. Which is a big statement to make as I've gone through many in my years of wearing makeup. It completely lives up to its name, it's incredibly natural on the skin and it has a fantastic formula. It's so finely milled that it applies beautifully and you can build it up to give you a little more extra coverage. This is what makes it the perfect on the go powder as it not only mattifies the skin but can be used a base too.

JURLIQUE ROSE POWDER*: Probably the most traditional powder offering in my collection. If I had to think about the beauty products that they would use in the 1920's than this would be it. It's the most mattifying powder that I own so it's perfect for the summer months when you're makeup is sliding off your face within a few minutes of application. Even though it is super mattifying and really does help your makeup stay all day it doesn't suck all the life out of your skin which is a fine line to toe when using a powder like this. The rose scent definitely isn't for everybody but I personally love it.

BARE MINERALS BLEMISH REMEDY*: The newest powder to my collection. Although this is technically marketed as a foundation I'm too much of a liquid lover to make the transition. Whenever I want a super flawless base then I will use a powder base on top as it not only offers up extra coverage but it sets everything into place. As I'm only a couple of uses into this I cannot offer a full review yet but so far I'm so impressed. When used in conjunction with a satin base it creates the most flawless looking complexion. Not only does it make your skin look beautiful, it contains tea tree and witch hazel which are amazing for spot prone skin.

RIMMEL MATCH PERFECTION POWDER: We all know the drill with this one, loose powder is a complete faff and there is no way of getting around that. This is one of the best powders that I've ever used and it makes it even better that it's from the high street and is under £10. It mattifies the skin and smoothes the complexion out perfectly which is something that is rare to find as often powder can accentuate blemishes and uneven skin texture.

MAC MINERALIZE SKIN FINISH IN LIGHTSCAPE: Using a luminizing powder is almost like applying a soft focus filter to your face for the day. I was always a little sceptical about them making my skin looking greasy or even worse glittery, but the MAC MSF in Lightscapade does neither of those things. It helps to prolong the wear time of your base as well as adding light and life to the skin without being overly obvious. If you wanted to use this powder as a highlight you could really amp it up on the cheeks but for me it's the perfect luminous setting powder.
